HAMDEN–Police arrested a man after they say he assaulted two women in front of a child.
Around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning police responded to the intersection of Shelton Avenue and Goodrich Street on reports of a woman and child being beaten with a bat. The suspect was found within moments and arrested.
According to police, the investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as James Morrison, 50, of New Haven, was in a verbal fight with his ex-girlfriend. The woman’s 20-year-old daughter tried to help her, at which point police say Morrison put the young woman in a headlock and began hitting her with a baseball bat in the head. Morrison then is said to have hit his ex-girlfriend with the bat in her leg.
The incident occurred in front of a 12-year-old child.
The 20-year-old was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for a head injury; the 36-year-old woman, Morrison’s ex-girlfriend, refused treatment for her leg.
Morrison is charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor. He was held on a $5,000 bond.
