NEW LONDON--There is another story about Alexander Hamilton that New London's Coast Guard Museum is anxious to tell.
"We're going to tell a great story of how Hamilton was a founding father of our Coast Guard and really was the basis of our maritime nation," said Capt. Wes Pulver, executive director of the Coast Guard Museum.
The success of "Hamilton" on Broadway is already piquing a greater interest in the museum and the Coast Guard. "We've had donors that did not know and have come up and said, 'Hey! I saw 'Hamilton.' Are you part of that story?'" said Pulver. "We'll, he's a big part of our story."
Now, Culver is getting ready to put Hamilton front and center at the museum.
"Hamilton, as really the father of the Coast Guard, is going to play a very important role in our museum," said Pulver.
Without Hamilton's forward-thinking vision, New London might not look the same. "He knew that to be a successful nation, we had to have successful commerce, successful maritime, and that's why he put forth the laws that brought forth our coast guard," said Pulver.
The museum is set to open in 2020, and will be the first and only museum in the country completely dedicated to the Coast Guard.
