HARTFORD  —  A 40-year-old Cuban national faces five years in federal prison in a string of burglaries at outlet stores in six states including one in Clinton.

Alionis Perez is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in Connecticut after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges in May. Prosecutors say he led a group that in 2013 broke into the Fossil store in Clinton and other outlet stores at night, targeting time pieces.

They say he and his partners got away with more than $1.8 million in watches during burglaries in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Florida and Pennsylvania. They say the gang also attempted a burglary in Maine that failed.

Perez also pleaded guilty to a separate conspiracy involving thefts of cash and sunglasses in 2014 from stores in Kansas and Tennessee.

Prosecutors say they won’t oppose his lawyer’s suggestion of a five-year sentence.
