HARTFORD -- The Rising Star Breakfast is the official kick-off to the United Way Community Campaign.

The focus is on the importance of early literacy with keynote speaker, Dr. Myra Jones-Taylor, Commissioner Connecticut Office of Early Childhood. This year the group is celebrating the 25th anniversary of United Way Year of Caring.

Paula Gilberto, MetroHartford Alliance and the United Way joined FOX 61 Good Day Connecticut to talk about the event.

For 25 years, United Way Year of Caring has connected workplaces to the volunteer power of their employees to make opportunities possible for children and families in our community.

Volunteers share their time and talents by engaging in one-time projects at various community locations such as schools and parks in central and northeastern Connecticut.

The breakfast is Wednesday, August 24 from  7:30 AM - 9:00 AM at the Hilton Hartford, 315 Trumbull Street. Hartford.
