HARTFORD — Former death-row inmates Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes have been transferred from a Connecticut prison to separate facilities in Pennsylvania.

They were convicted of killing Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, 17-year-old Haley and 11-year-old Michaela, during a 2007 home invasion in Cheshire.

Both were recently resentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled the death penalty in Connecticut was unconstitutional.

State prisons officials gave no reason for the transfers, other than saying it was done as part of an interstate corrections compact for “reasons of safety and security.”

The compact, which allows for the transfers between states, has been in effect since 1973.

The state Correction Department says both men will be housed out of state for an indefinite period of time.
