13-year-old takes 5 teens on joyride in Hamden, crashes car

HAMDEN — Three teens are facing charges after one of them took a car for a joyride and it crashed on Tuesday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, police were called to a crash at the Hamden Plaza on Dixwell Avenue. They found the 2013 Toyota Corolla had smashed into a concrete wall. There were 5 other teens in the car at the time.

A 13-year-old from New Haven was driving the car, according to police. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission.

Two other teens were charged with interfering with an officer, police said.

The kids suffered only minor injuries from the crash.

All of the juveniles were released to their parents, police said.
