MERIDEN — Police said the victim in Friday’s crash of a stolen car was a juvenile.

Meriden police are investigating the crash that killed the passenger in a stolen car early Friday. They said they were not confirming the identity of the victim.

Officials also said they expected to make an arrest in the near future.

The crash happened on Maple Avenue near Ivy Drive around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning.  Police said they had responded to the area for reports of two men looking into cars in a residential area.

Officers saw a car leaving the area at a high rate of speed. A short time later, police said the car hit a tree and the passenger was killed. Police said the driver ran from the scene and a search with canine officers was unable to find him.

Police determined the car was stolen.
