WEST HAVEN — A tractor trailer accident shut down the southbound side of I-95 in West Haven Wednesday morning for several hours, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, but it has since reopened.
The highway was closed between exits 44 and 43 because of the accident, which was caused when the truck slowed down due to traffic and the load in the trailer shifted and broke free. At that point, the load rolled and hit the cab portion of the truck.
The accident occurred around 10:55 a.m.
The driver, Michael Chebro, 61, of Derby, was cited for operating a vehicle improperly loaded and traveling too fast for conditions.
No word yet on what caused the crash.
