Rock Legend Prince Dies At Age 57

MINNEAPOLIS — Paisley Park, the private estate and studio complex of the late rock superstar Prince, will open for public tours starting Oct. 6.

Bremer Trust, which is overseeing Prince’s estate, announced the daily tours Wednesday, saying it was Prince’s “long-term vision for the property.”

“Opening Paisley Park is something that Prince always wanted to do and was actively working on,” said Tyka Nelson, Prince’s sister. “Only a few hundred people have had the rare opportunity to tour the estate during his lifetime. Now, fans from around the world will be able to experience Prince’s world for the first time as we open the doors to this incredible place.”

Its news release said millions of Prince fans will get the chance to tour the 65,000-square-foot complex in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen, where Prince died of a painkiller overdose in April.

The plan submitted to the city of Chanhassen says the tours will include studios where Prince recorded, produced and mixed most of his biggest hits. Also featured will be thousands of artifacts from his personal archives.

The city of Chanhassen released a statement on Wednesday, which said, in part, that the town has “received comments from thousands of people since Prince’s death on April 21, a majority of which were in support of Paisley Park being preserved as an historic museum that celebrates the life and genius of this entertainment icon who made his home in our community.”

It added that it will hold a public comment session at a planning and zoning meeting on September 20 to hear from residents, and a special meeting of the City Council has been scheduled for October 3 to give final approval.

Also, a family tribute concert will be held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on October 13.
