HARTFORD - A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 closed the eastbound side of the highway for part of Saturday morning.
A red couple style car crashed near the Capitol Avenue and Sigourney Street off-ramps at exit 48 around 8 a.m. It ignited into a massive fireball shortly after crashing, prompting an immediate highway closure.
The Hartford Fire Department sent a tanker to the scene to extinguish the flames, but not before the vehicle was completely charred by the inferno.
One person was occupying the vehicle at the time of the crash. The victim escaped just before the car shot up in flames, sustaining only minor injuries from the crash.
State Police made quick work of the scene, wrapping up their initial investigation within an hour of the accident taking place. Wreckers cleared the roads before 8:45 a.m. and within 15 minutes, the road was reopened.
