BERLIN --Police are investigating a series of stolen cars, and the thefts involve teenagers.

On Monday around 10:25 a.m. Hartford Police deployed a unit to stop a vehicle that had been stolen. Officers parked their cruiser in front of the stolen car near 438 New Britain Avenue, but the suspects drove past them, hitting the cruiser before driving off.

Police caught up to the suspects several blocks away after they crashed and tried to run away.

No one was hurt in either crash.

It was determined the car had been stolen from Berlin, and the driver was a 16-year-old who had previously been arrested in Hartford for stealing cars five times, including two pursuits. His most recent arrest was July 25.

A 19-year-old passenger was also arrested.

Berlin Police say that around 6:45 a.m. on Monday a resident of Overhill Drive reported his home had been broken into overnight through a window screen. The robbers took the keys to two vehicles that were in his driveway, and then stole the cars.

The first car was involved in the two crashes in Hartford, and two people were arrested.

The second stolen car was found in Hartford later Monday afternoon, and a 17-year-old suspect was charged in the case at that point as well.

Police did not detail what the charges would be, but all three would be charged with stealing the vehicles.

While in custody, the suspects admitted to going through cars with unlocked doors or cars with keys in them in Newington and Westhersfield before they moved on to Berlin.
