WOLCOTT- Police have arrested two women after a homeowner reported that someone had broken in.

Just after 6 a.m. on Wednesday, a Wolcott homeowner called 911 to report that she thought she heard a burglar in her home. The caller and her husband were in the basement working out and heard someone upstairs; the woman took the couple's 4-year-old son out to the car to call 911 while the husband went to investigate.

From her driveway, the caller reported that a Hyundai was parked in front of her house and that an unknown woman was sitting inside.

While investigating, the husband found a red-headed woman hiding in a shower in an upstairs bathroom. He yelled "What are you doing!" Then, the woman handed him a bag filled with his wife's jewelry. The woman said she was sorry and ran from the home.

The wife saw the second woman run from the house and enter the driver's side of the Hyundai, and the two drove off.

Police spotted the car thanks to the wife recording the license plate, and pulled it over, though the driver was having issues: it was a standard transmission, which she had trouble operating. Police pulled her out of the car after she tried to hide her hand, and then also arrested the passenger.

Numerous stolen items were found in the car and on the suspects' bodies.

The car was also stolen from Naugatuck.

The suspects, Vanessa Alvarado, 19, and Taylor Grant, 20, both from Naugatuck, were arrested. Alvarado is the one who was in the home, police say, and Grant was the person sitting in the car.

Both are charged with burglary in the first degree, larceny in the third degree, larceny in the fifth degree, conspiracy to commit burglary in the first degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the fifth degree. Both wee held on $100,000 bond.
