COLCHESTER–A house fire in Colchester left several pets dead, but thankfully several were rescued as well.
Around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Colchester firefighters responded to a home on Hammond Court and saw heavy smoke coming from a home. A second alarm was called so that backup would come assist in fighting the flames, and firefighters were able to put out the fire, which began in the attic.
The Colchester Fire Department defined the house as a “Collyer’s Mansion,” which means that there was a hoarding situation going on.
It wasn’t specified how many pets died and how many were rescued.
Firefighters from East Haddam, East Hampton, Hebron, Marlborough, Salem and Yantic responded.
