NEWINGTON — Crews responded to a blaze that erupted at a milk bottling plant Saturday morning.

Volunteer firefighters and members of the Newington Police Department were dispatched to Saputo Milk Farms, located at 100 Milk Lane in Newington, sometime after 7 a.m.

The local fire marshal issued a hazmat alert on the ground, due to the potential for exposure to flammable materials in the plant’s industrial location.

Task force companies were staged at Newington High School while they battled through smoke and ash to hose down the flames.

Police officials say there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire, although there were several people near the building at the time.

Eversource was contacted on a high-priority alarm. They also assisted by providing additional resources to police and fire at the scene.
