New London police investigate after man assaulted and followed into apartment

NEW LONDON — New London Police are investigating after three people assaulted a man outside a store, then followed him into an apartment.

Police were called to 78 West Street around 9:30 p.m. after reports of Rachell Garcia (25), Domonique Shankle (28), and Joeseph Mendoza (30) assaulting a male.

The 58-year-old victim had exchanged words with one of the females involved while inside a convenience store on 255 Broad Street. It turned physical when the suspects began assaulting him.

The victim fled the store and towards West Street with the suspects continuing to assault him. The victim then ran into an apartment at 78 West Street to escape from the suspects. One of the females kicked in the door, and all three dragged the victim out to the front porch and continued assaulting him until police were called.

The victim was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for multiple contusions.

Garcia, Shankle, and Mendoza were charged with breach of peace, and assault. Garcia was also charged with home Invasion and burglary. All three are being held on $50,000 bond
