Never forget. They’re words we hear every September, and words we’ll never forget.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of theSeptember 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. As we commemorate another year, we want to honor the the lives that were lost, and remember the Connecticut residents among them. The state’s official memorial is on Sherwood Island, which held its annual ceremony on Thursday night
Other events were held today, including Berlin where the first responders were honored prior to the start of the youth football season. Members of the police department and volunteers from the fire department and the EMT's were all recognized while the American flag hung above one of the town's ladder trucks.
In Cheshire, there was a large 30'x30' flag presented before their home games throughout the day.
"The kids suggested we do something for this important day. We all agreed that it is right and appropriate to acknowledge the lives lost on that day, as well as honor those who have defended our freedoms through military service," said Carolyn Dudeck, Cheer Coordinator.
In East Haven, the Shore Line Trolley Museum unveiled its display of a subway car that was pulled virtually undamaged from the World Trade Center rubble after September 11th.
And in Milford, there was a 9/11 Remembrance 5k and family day to honor the heroes of 9/11.
