The state’s official memorial is on Sherwood Island, which held its annual ceremony on Thursday night

Members of the police department and volunteers from the fire department and the EMT's were all recognized while the American flag hung above one of the town's ladder trucks.

In Cheshire, there was a large 30'x30' flag presented before their home games throughout the day.

"The kids suggested we do something for this important day. We all agreed that it is right and appropriate to acknowledge the lives lost on that day, as well as honor those who have defended our freedoms through military service," said Carolyn Dudeck, Cheer Coordinator.
