MILFORD – Milford police have arrested a man they call the ‘Backpage Bandit.’

Police investigated after women were robbed in local hotels and motels while offering services through a website called backpage.com.

They arrested Jonathan Arzu, 23, of Bridgeport on Thursday and charged him with first-degree robbery, unlawful restraint, and sixth-degree larceny,

They said Arzu forced his way into a Boston Post Road hotel room on July 27 with two accomplices and tied a woman up with phone cord and then ransacked the hotel room, robbing the woman of money and a cell phone while holding a knife to her neck.

Police said they used DNA evidence to identify Arzu and he was also identified by the victim. Future arrests are expected, according to police.

Arzu was held on a $50,000 bond to appear in Milford Court on Friday.
