BRIDGEPORT — Two Bridgeport police officers who were working a private security job at a city bar when police raided it and found dozens of underage drinkers have been suspended without pay.

Chief Armando Perez says officers Chris Smith and Andrew Talavera were each suspended for 30 days for violating department rules that bans officers from working off-duty security jobs at bars.

Perez tells the Connecticut Post that Talavara, who was third on the list for a promotion to sergeant, was passed over for promotion and has been removed from the SWAT team.

Police union President Charles Paris says both officers agreed to the suspensions, although the union will appeal Talavara being passed over for promotion.

Both were working as bouncers at the Golden Star Cafe in April when it was raided.
