HARTFORD — A group of homeowners who own homes with crumbling foundations rallied outside the Governor’s executive residence Saturday, calling on Gov. Dan Malloy to exert more leadership on the issue.
Malloy came out and spoke with members of the group and told them the foundations needed to be tested and pressure should be put on insurance companies to participate in this process, and bring more people to the table.
According to a Capitol Region Council of Government’s report, more than 19,000 homes in as many as 24 towns with failing foundations
In June, Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen said the state has reached a deal with a handful of insurance companies to finance a program meant to compensate affected homeowners.
The program is still being finalized but it could provide homeowners up to 90 percent of the cost of replacing the damaged foundations.
Jepsen said just four of the 29 insurance companies working in impacted communities in Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties have so far agreed to take part. The Hartford, Travelers, Amica, and an unnamed company will form a pool from which victims can recoup some repair costs.
