LEDYARD–Police have identified the man who died after threatening police with a gun during an arrest.

Police were trying to serve an active arrest warrant to Michael Goodale, 23, of Groton, on Tuesday in the Fox Tower parking garage at Foxwoods Casino when he pointed a firearm at them. Officers ordered him to drop it, but he didn’t, so at least one Mashantucket Tribal police officer fired his weapon. At that point, Goodale fell off the fourth level of the parking garage onto the paved ground below.

Goodale was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

Police say that Goodale was initially going to be arrested on a warrant stating he violated his probation.

On Friday, police identified the officer who fired his weapon as Sgt. Kevin Leach. Leach has been with the Mashantucket Tribal Police Department for three years. He was with the Norwich Police Department previously, but retired.

The Eastern District Major Crime unit is still investigating.
