MILFORD - Cleanup continued into Thursday morning at a Milford business, following an overnight fire.

The fire started at about 10:15 Wednesday night at the City Carting & Recycling Company at 221 Old Gate Lane.

Milford fire officials said that the first crews to arrive found a large waste pile inside of the structure “heavily involved in fire.”

They also said the building itself is a non-combustible metal structure which suffered some damage due to intense heat from the flames.

Milford fire officials are expected to continue watching for hotspots into Thursday morning and said they will bring in heavy machinery to remove debris and deal with any remaining smoldering embers.

City Carting and Recycling Co. is hired out for commercial and residential waste removal. It has its headquarters in Stamford. In addition to the Milford location, the company also has a facility in Norwalk and in Somers, New York.
