WESTPORT — One person is dead and another charged with drunk driving following a fiery tractor-trailer crash in Westport Wednesday evening. Connecticut State Police said the crash happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday on I-95 southbound near exit 17 in Westport.

A car and tractor-trailer were traveling side by side when they hit each other, causing the tractor-trailer to crash into the guardrail, flip over, and burst into flames, police said in a statement Thursday morning.

The driver of the truck, Thomas Reynolds, 64, of Woodbury, died.

Ramses Rival, 35, of Stamford, was driving the car, and was not injured. He is charged with driving while intoxicated and was released on bond.

I-95 southbound was closed between exits 18 and 17 because of the crash until about 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Any witnesses are asked to call Troop G in Bridgeport at 203-696-2500.
