NORWALK - For the fourth time this year, a baby has died while under the care of a home based daycare provider.

Norwalk Police are investigating the death of a 4-month-old girl at a home that was acting as a daycare, and operated by Christine Limone, 47, the daughter of Norwalk's mayor.

On Wednesday, just after 1:30 p.m. first-responders were called to a medical aid emergency involving an infant at a daycare located in the basement of 9 Hunters Lane, where CPR was in progress. The baby girl was taken to Norwalk Hospital, where the girl was later pronounced dead.

The Special Victims Unit is investigating the incident and Norwalk police, the Department of Children and Families were collaborating on the investigation, but State Police from Western District Major Crime assumed the investigation as of 10:45 a.m. Thursday.

Because the Mayor's daughter is being investigated, Norwalk police handed off the case to state police so that there is no question as to whether an impartial investigation is being conducted. Mayor Harry Rilling is a former Norwalk police chief. The mayor's assistant said Rilling was out of the office today.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the cause and manner of death. The baby girl's autopsy is expected to be completed Friday.

Police said it's too early to tell whether or not any charges will be filed.

Limone has been a licensed home daycare provider since 2002. Her business has been inspected, unannounced, at least nine times and, according to the Office of Early Childhood, there have been no enforcement actions taken after any inspection.
