Woman and child struck; Meriden police looking for driver

MERIDEN — Police are searching for the driver in a hit and run accident that injured a woman and a child Friday.

Meriden police said  a pair were struck in the area of 109 Springdale Ave. around 8:40 p.m.

Police said the driver fled the scene leaving the woman, 40,  with serious injuries. The seven-year-old child suffered minor injuries.  The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, according to police. The woman was later taken to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar.

The street was closed police expect to be investigating for a while.

Police describe the car they are looking for as a four door red sedan, possibly a Nissan with tinted windows, with heavy windshield damage.
