Coast Guard Offers Boating Safety Tips

SAN FRANCISCO, California — A boat carrying about 30 young people capsized near San Francisco’s Pier 45, trapping some of them under the boat’s hull before they were all rescued.

The Coast Guard said emergency personnel and good Samaritans responded calls for a sailboat that had capsized Saturday evening.

All people aboard the Khaleesi, a 34-foot recreational sailboat, are reported to have been accounted for at Pier 45 according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard and partner agencies were in the vicinity for Fleet Week safety patrols and were able to quickly respond.

The pier is located in an area with numerous tourist stops including a retired Navy vessel, the USS Pampanito.
