Mother dies after being struck by hit and run driver in Meriden

MERIDEN - The woman struck by a hit and run driver Friday night has died according to police.

Dania Cegeno-Delrosario, 40,  of Meriden, suffered serious head and chest injuries after being struck by a car on Springdale Avenue about 10:34 p.m. Police said Cegeno-Delrosario and her daughter Denisse, 7. were getting out of their car on the north side of the street, and crossing Springdale Avenue when they were struck by a dark colored vehicle traveling east. The car did not stop and left the scene.

Cegeno-Delrosario was found lying partially under a white SUV that was parked on the street. Police said she was taken by Life Star to Hartford Hospital where she died of her injuries.

Her daughter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.

Police said damage to the vehicle included the driver’s side front quarter panel, hood, front bumper, and driver’s door.  In addition a driver’s side mirror and casing from the car was found at the scene. Police said the parts matched a Nissan.  Officers are reviewing video of the area from neighboring businesses.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the main desk at 203 630-6215.
