WATERTOWN--Each fall, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection introduces new fish into our lakes, rivers and ponds in an effort to aid fishermen.

Thousands of salmon, trout and other fish species are put in the water bodies to provide ample catchings for recreational fishers. The natural populations are quickly depleted in certain areas due to the popularity of fishing.

"Usually we begin our fall trout stocking early in September. This year, due to the low flows and warm water temperatures, we were delayed for several weeks waiting for things to improve," said Tim Barry, supervising fishery biologist.
