MILFORD — Police have identified the body of a man found in a burning car last week in Milford.
Authorities said the body was discovered Friday night near the Connecticut Audubon Society building.
Firefighters responding to a 911 call found a car engulfed in flames. They found the body in the driver’s seat after the blaze was extinguished.
Police on Tuesday identified the body as 72-year-old Richard Weir.
The Connecticut Post reports Weir was recently released after serving most of a three-year sentence for larceny.
He had pleaded guilty to stealing more than $230,000 from the Milford Rotary Club and the Milford Special Olympics while serving as treasurer for the groups.
His cause of death hasn’t been determined.
