HARTFORD - Several police departments in Connecticut will participate in National Take Back Day on Saturday.

The event will be held in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration and allows residents to drop off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal with no questions asked.

Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara told FOX 61 that people in Fairfield can drop off their prescription drugs from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Fairfield Police Department at 100 Reef Road. MacNamara said the drop-off event helps to keep unused prescriptions out of people’s home cabinets, where the drugs can potentially be misused or abused.

Last April, Americans turned in more than 893,000 pounds of prescription drugs during the take-back event.

The Branford Police Department will also participate at their collection site located at the Branford Police Department at 33 Laurel Street.
