WINSTED – The Gilbert school received national recognition Sunday.

The school received Silver Medal status from U.S. News and World Report, and was the highest ranked Connecticut school on Newsweek’s ‘Beating the Odds’ list.

Both lists identify schools that do an excellent job of preparing their students for college.

Lawmakers, school leaders and the community also gathered to celebrate the Winsted school’s principal Dr. Alan Strauss– who was named Connecticut principal of the year.

Gilbert School serves students from grades seven through 12.
