EAST HARTFORD--"McAlister loves running!" screamed a group of middle school students on Tuesday, and boy do they mean it!
Along with about 2,000 students from 37 other schools around the state, the students from Suffield's McAlister Intermediate School ran the "Final Mile Event" on Tuesday at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. The event brings middle school and elementary school students from across the state to Rentschler Field to run a mile, their 26th, so they could complete a "mile."
It's all sponsored by the Hartford Marathon Foundation's Fit Kids school program, which promotes healthy lifestyles.
And the kids are really into it.
"I worked hard and I accomplished what I wanted to do," said Mekyi Shepard, one of the McAlister runners. "Just keep pushing yourself exercise. Don't smoke tobacco nothing just like just keep healthy."
Students kept learning about healthiness at a World of Fitness expo after the run.
