The FBI told FOX 61 that a white powdery substance was discovered in the building, located at 100 Gando Drive in New Haven, which was subsequently evacuated around 2:20 p.m.

The substance arrived in a letter or package, though it’s not yet known if USPS or a private delivery service brought it, or where it came from.

After 5 p.m. it was determined not to be toxic, and the scene was cleared.

The FBI, hazmat, New Haven Fire Department, New Haven Police, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and other agencies responded to the scene to investigate the source of the substance. Police said the substance was sent to a lab for testing, and it was later found to be non-toxic.

Officials tell FOX 61 that no one was injured during the incident.

Reporters from the New Haven Register were tweeting about the incident as it happened and say that a few people in the building had to go through a decontamination process after exiting due to possible exposure.
