NEW HAVEN — Early Monday morning, police were called to K2 Fine Asian Cuisine Restaurant on Temple Street in New Haven after two people were shot inside.

At 1:42 a.m., officers arrived and saw hundreds of people in the street, running from the restaurant, police said. Jamarr Hailey, 26, of New Haven had been shot in his thigh and foot.

“Officers outside did their best to come up with witnesses and otherwise disburse the unruly crowd,” said Officer David Hartman. “Inside, officers saw employees moping the floor and made them stop.”

The restaurant’s owner, Hue Lin, told police she knew a fight had erupted outside but claimed to know nothing of a shooting, Hartman added. Officers found evidence of a shooting inside, but restaurant employees continued to deny the shooting.

Lin told police she’d rented a space in the restaurant to someone throwing a birthday party. Officers described seeing “several hundred people” there, including hired bouncers.

Sometime later, Shaqueala Cobbs, 27, of New Haven, was dropped off by a relative at Yale New Haven Hospital. She said she’d been at K-2 Fine Asian Cuisine when she was shot. She’d suffered a minor graze wound to her right calf. She said she was standing near the DJ booth when she heard gunfire. She said she dropped to the floor and got out.

Both victim’s are going to be okay.

Detectives are interested in speaking with anyone who has information as to the shooter’s identity or who witnessed the crime. Detectives can be reached by phoning 203-946-6304.
