HARTFORD — Amanda Glendinning is a runner from South Norwalk who on Sunday will join over 50,000 other runners from around the globe will participate in the world’s largest marathon, the TCS New York City Marathon.
Glendinning, 33, is running for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation because on her 15th birthday, Glendinning was diagnosed with Lupus.
“Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body: skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body,” she said.
Having been so young when she was diagnosed, she tried to find different ways to handle how Lupus impacted her life.
She found exercising helped to keep things at bay, but after a while became bored with the same gym routine. In 2010 she completed a sprint triathlon and found she loved the running portion, leading her to complete countless races and nine full marathons.
The 2016 TCS New York City Marathon will be her 10th full marathon and her fourth time running in New York.
“Lupus may cause barriers for me, but helping others through running helps me overcome them,” she said.
