NEW HAVEN — Fire, Police and U.S. Coast Guard personnel responded to the Grand Avenue Bridge near Front Street to investigate a body in the Quinnipiac River Tuesday afternoon.

Marine 1 was dispatched around 1 p.m., as well as the New Haven Police Department Underwater Search and Recovery Team, police said.

Police said Gary Crawford, 59, of New Haven, was pulled from the water during the search, according to Officer David Hartman, but there are no outward signs of foul play. However, police are treating it as potential crime since there’s no indication either way.

It’s not clear how long he was in the river or where he entered the river.
