SPRINGFIELD — Two Springfield, Mass. police officers have been hit by a car and a passenger in that vehicle was hit by a bullet during a late night pursuit in the city.

Police say Springfield police tried to pull over a vehicle wanted in Enfield, Connecticut, in connection with an armed robbery late Monday night, but the car took off striking two officers. Sgt. John Delaney says the officers both suffered minor injuries and were brought to the hospital.

Other officers shot at the car as it drove off.

The car crashed after a chase early Tuesday morning. Delaney says one occupant ran way. Another occupant had been grazed by a bullet and was also treated at the hospital.

The man who fled is considered armed and possibly wounded.

It all started around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Police were called to a home on Kimberly Drive for shots fired at a house. No one was injured. Springfield Police said the trio was also involved in an armed robbery of 7-Eleven on Springfield Street around 2 a.m.

There is no description of the vehicle, and no names were released, but one person is from Rhode Island, and the other two from Massachusetts, according to police. Police don’t know why the suspects were in Enfield.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
