FARMINGTON — The American Red Cross in Connecticut is supporting homeless veterans through the Hope for the Holidays collection drive. In partnership with FOX 61’s Expect More Hope program, in coordination with The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk and AAA Allied Offices, the Red Cross will be collecting winter weather items to be distributed to homeless veterans this holiday season.

Hope for the Holidays will provide donated care packages to homeless veterans through agencies across our state who work with the homeless veteran population. The Hope for the Holidays drive will run November 1 – December 2, 2016.

“Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross on serving members of our military, and we are proud to continue that mission today, ,” said Mario Bruno, CEO, American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region. “Hope for the Holidays is just one way the Red Cross is able to provide comfort and hope to those who have served, and make sure they aren’t forgotten this season.”

The Red Cross is looking to collect the following items to be placed into care packages:

  • Socks (size large)
  • Winter gloves (size large and extra-large)
  • Knitted hats
  • Scarves
  • $10 to $15 dollar gift cards to quick service restaurants

“Small acts of kindness can make a huge difference in our community. This holiday season, we’re asking for your help to provide basic needs and warm clothing for homeless veterans and veterans in need. Let’s help to honor, respect and remember them.” said Trish Hesslein, Community Marketing Manager for FOX 61.

The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk is supporting this effort. Nicole Grendziszewski, Marketing Coordinator added, “Knowing that the Connecticut National Guard estimates nearly 1,000 homeless veterans in our state, The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk is proud to partner with the American Red Cross in support of HOPE for the Holidays by hosting this collection drive and helping to deliver warmth to veterans this season.”
