MERIDEN -- Last month Dania Cedeno Delrosario pushed her little one out of the way of an oncoming car, but was she was hit and killed.
Denisse Guerrero was pushed out of the way of an oncoming car, which just took off.
On Friday, November 4, the community came together to surround the little girl with love and support. The 7-year-old was overwhelmed by the number of people who showed up at a Pasta Dinner Fundraiser to raise money for the family.
"Everyone's kind of loving and nice," Guerrero said.
Megan Hampton, who is 12 years-old, said she just recently met Guerrero. She talked to her about losing her own parent.
"I was just telling her about how I kind of knew how she felt, because my dad died a couple years ago, and I was like if you ever want to talk then you can talk to my nona and then we can like talk to each other," Hampton said.
Also at the pasta dinner fundraiser was Delrosario's husband, Marcos Guerrero, who just recently moved to Connecticut from the Dominican Republic. The family had only been reunited in the U.S. for two months before the tragedy.
"What is lost can't be recovered but I'm grateful with you all for the support we have been given," Guerrero said.
They raised about $5,000 at the pasta dinner, and in total the community has raised about $13,000. But they still have not caught the hit and run driver, so Meriden police are asking if anyone has any information to please let them know.
