Meriden body found

MERIDEN – Meriden police said they have found the car they were looking as they try to figure out who’s responsible for the death of an elderly man.

The blue Nissan Sentra, which was missing from the dead man’s residence, was recovered during the overnight hours in Hartford, unoccupied.

Police were called to an apartment building, at 657 East Main Street Wednesday, for a report of dead body inside one of the apartment units. Neighbors said that there was a bad odor in the hallway, so they called police.

When officers arrived they found the elderly man’s body decomposing and said this death did not happen recently, and likely occurred weeks ago.

“We have some evidence and video that we’re going through at this point, we just put out a car that we believe belongs to the victim,” said Det. Lt. Mark Walerysiak.

Police also said in a Facebook post that the man had not yet been identified, but an autopsy was expected to be done Thursday to determine how he died and confirm his identity.

Police don’t think there’s a threat to the public.
