STRATFORD -- The annual Vicki Soto 5-K Walk And Run was held Saturday in Stratford.

Organizers want to remember the teacher who lost her life protecting her students during the Sandy Hook tragedy in Newtown.

More than 3,000 turned out for the event, now in its fourth year.

Flamingos, more than 800 of them, adorned the race route, symbolizing both Vicki's favorite animal and color.

Bag pipers played Amazing Grace and a moment of silence was held before the walk started.

It's designed to be a family event, spreading Vicki's life-long mantra of 'Live, Laugh, Love."
