Meriden fire - by Marc Sattler

MERIDEN –Firefighters were called to a fire in a unit at the Meriden Housing Authority Complex at Chamberlain Heights around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Officials said the residents were not home at the time,  and occupants of adjoining units were outside when firefighters arrived.

The fire may have started in the kitchen,  but the cause is still under investigation.

The unit where the fire started is not habitable, with extensive damage to the first floor and smoke damage to the second,  but neighbors were able to return home. One  family, an adult and three children are being helped by the Red Cross.
