SOUTH WINDSOR - A fire in a condo spread to other units Saturday afternoon.

Crews were called to the complex at 949 Pleasant Valley Rd. shortly before 3 p.m.

One woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two firefighters, one from South Windsor and one from Ellington were also taken to the hospital. Their injuries were not life threatening. Two other firefighters refused treatment.

Michelle Harding has been living in the Pleasant Valley Condos for three years.

"We were at a 7-year-old's birthday party and we got a text message that somebody drove by our house and it was on fire," Harding said.

The fire started on the first floor and extended up to the second and across to four units heavily damaging them.

Chief Kevin Cooney said there are no firewalls between the units, which would have prevented the fire moving from unit to unit. At the time they were built, they were not required.  A fire in November 2004 destroyed four units. A fire in a nearby complex in July 2014, destroyed several units.

Sixteen units were affected. Nine families, 15 adults and eight children were being assisted by the Red Cross.

The whole South Windsor department of about fifty firefighters along with four other neighboring towns crews were called in.

The fire is about a mile from the Buckland Hills retail area.
