WALLINGFORD – A man was charged by police who said he was seen going through cars in a downtown Wallingford parking lot and stealing from them.

On Tuesday just before 8 p.m. police said they went to the rear public parking lot of Gaetano’s Restaurant at 40 North Main Street for the report of a man trying to get into parked cars by pulling on their door handles.

Police said they found William Flores, 26, whose last known address was Washington Street in Wallingford walking behind Wells Fargo Bank, next door to the Gaetano’s lot. Police said several witnesses came forward pointing out cars that Flores attempted to enter. One of the witnesses told police they saw Flores open the unlocked door of a Nissan Pathfinder and rummage through the contents. When police searched Flores, they said they found several items that were positively identified by the Pathfinder’s owner.

Flores was charged wit third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on a $10,000 bail and given a court date of Tuesday, November 22 in Meriden. Flores’ last known address is 303 Washington Street in Wallingford.
