ENFIELD — An Enfield lawmaker has been charged with assaulting his father, two days after losing his re-election bid.

Enfield police said David Alexander was arrested just after 1 a.m. Thursday after a fight inside his home.

The 35-year-old Democrat was charged with assault on an elderly victim and breach of peace.

Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said Alexander was intoxicated when police arrived at his home just after 1 a.m. Sferazza said the father told officers he awoke to find his son screaming at him and was then punched in the face.

The chief said Alexander told officers he hit his father and asked to be arrested.

The two-term lawmaker was scheduled to be arraigned later Thursday. He did not immediately return phone calls and emails seeking comment.

Alexander has previously been charged with DUI  twice.
