MIDDLETOWN — The Wesleyan Cardinals and the visiting Trinity Bantams squared off for the 115th time on the grid iron Saturday afternoon.
With these two rivals, every match up has meaning but this one had just a little extra. Bantams came in to the game 7-0 and hoped to win the NESCAC outright while the 6-1 Cardinals had the chance to grab a share of the title with a victory.
Wesleyan scored on their first two drives to grab a quick 14-0 lead. Then on the kickoff after their second touchdown Trinity senior Darrien Myers would return the kick 98 yards for the touchdown the energized the Bantams bench. Trinity would proceed to score 35 unanswered points in the half to lead 35-14 at the break.
The second fared no better for the Cardinals as Trinity kept the pedal down to run away with the 45-21 win, go 8-0 and win the NESCAC conference title.
