WALLINGFORD–After a local shop noticed a gun was missing from its display case, it did a little digging, which led to police involvement.

On Thursday, employees at Delta Arsenal, located at 372 Quinnipiac Street in Wallingford, noticed a missing gun from the case. When they went back and looked at surveillance video, they saw a man reach over the counter, grab the gun, and leave.

Employees called police, who viewed the surveillance video, and the shop put out an alert on its Facebook page asking for help in identifying the man.

The public called in tips, and on Friday police arrested Michael Sasportas, of Bloomfield. They found the stolen gun at his home, as well as another firearm that was stolen from West Springfield, Massachusetts, in 2012.

Sasportas was charged with two counts of theft of a firearm, two counts larceny in the fifth degree and carrying a pistol without a permit.

He was held on $100,000 bond, and also has pending criminal cases in Newington for two separate incidents involving the theft of firearms at a local gun store in September.
