NEW HAVEN — A New Haven man has been convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the killing of a West Haven man who was found shot to death in his car four years ago.

New Haven Register reports that the jury on Monday convicted 26-year-old Vincente Ayala, of New Haven, of the charges in the death of 19-year-old Thomas Mozell Jr. The judge found Ayala not guilty on two gun charges.

Ayala faces a range of 25 to 80 years in prison when he’s sentenced Jan. 17. His attorney couldn’t be reached for comment.

Authorities said Mozell was shot in the head in March 2012 as he sat in his car. He was found dead in the driver’s seat.

Police said Mozell was killed over a gang-related dispute.
