NEW HAVEN — Police are investigating after a person was shot and killed in New Haven Thursday morning.

Police from New Haven and Hamden were called to Cherry Ann Street around 3:15 a.m.

At the scene, officers found Dyrail Martaye Reddick, 30, of New Haven. He was shot multiple times and rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after.

Investigators say Reddick was shot following a dispute in the parking lot of the apartment complex at 112 Cherry Ann Street.

Soon after, officers from Southern Connecticut State University spotted a red Accura, thought to have been involved. The car sped off and crashed into a tree on Whalley Avenue. Two of the car’s occupants ran off but one was detained, police said.

“That car and another found parked at the Slice Pizza Restaurant in Hamden, have been towed by police and will undergo forensic processing,” said Officer David Hartman. “The involvement of those cars in this case is uncertain.”

Police are asking for the public’s help. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or who may have information valuable to investigators, is urged to phone detectives at 203-946-6304. Calls may be made anonymously.
