EAST HARTFORD–A pedestrian was hit on the highway Thursday evening and had serious injuries.

The victim, Bryan Nagel, 49, of Hartford, later died from his injuries.

Police say Nagel was crossing from the northbound shoulder of I-84 westbound to the southbound should about 3/10 of a mile before Exit 51 when he was hit by a Subaru Outback.

I-84 westbound was shut down between exits 51 and 50 as emergency responders dealt with the crash, but reopened about an hour later. Traffic lasted for several hours, but was cleared up later in the night.

The 61-year-old driver of the car was not injured in the crash.

If you have information please call police at 860-534-1000.

Earlier on Thursday I-95 southbound was closed for about 6 1/2 hours after a tractor-trailer hit a pedestrian. That person died from his or her injuries.
