NEW HAVEN – New Haven Police have identified a man shot to death on a city basketball court Monday afternoon.

Police said that just before 2:45 p.m. on Monday, EMTs went to a reported cardiac arrest patient at the basketball court behind 24 Victory Drive.

When they got there, EMTs determined the victim, Dontray D. Hammond, 22, of Plant Street in New Haven, had been shot, and called police.

Hammond was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.

There is no description of the shooter but witnesses are being interviewed by police.

In October 10, Hammond was arrested for breach of peace and was due in court on December 27.
